Suspension & Steering Services

Alignments

When is it time for an alignment?

Many people overlook their vehicle's maintenance needs and that mostly applies to the alignment. The first step you should take before scheduling an alignment is to know what will cause your alignment to be off. Here are the signs:

  • Uneven tread wear

  • Unwanted movement to the left or right

  • The steering wheel isn't straight

  • Steering wheel vibrations

Anytime you have something like this happen is when you will know that you need an alignment. Give us a call to set up an appointment and we will get you taken care of!

Suspension System

The Suspension system connects the vehicle's wheels to its frame or body. Its primary function is to absorb bumps, vibrations, and shocks from the road, maintaining tire contact with the road and providing stability. Key components of the suspension system include:

1. Springs (coil, leaf, or torsion bar): Support the vehicle's weight and maintain ride height.

2. Shock absorbers (or dampers): Control oscillations and damping of the springs.

3. Struts: Combine the functions of springs and shock absorbers.

4. Control arms (upper and lower): Locate the wheels and suspend them from the frame.

5. Bushings: Allow for smooth movement and flexibility in the suspension components.

Steering System

The steering system enables the driver to control the direction of the vehicle. It consists of:

1. Steering Column: Connects the steering wheel to the steering gear.

2. Steering Gear (or gearbox): Converts the rotational motion of the steering wheel into linear motion.

3. Pitman Arm: Connects the steering gear to the steering linkage.

4. Steering Linkage (tie rods, idler arm, and drag link): Transfers the motion from the steering gear to the wheels.

5. Power Steering Pump (if equipped): Provides hydraulic pressure to assist steering.

Service & Maintenance

Regular suspension and steering system service is essential to maintain vehicle safety, stability, and ride comfort. Services may include:

1. Inspections: Visual examination of components for signs of wear, damage, or corrosion.

2. Alignment: Adjustment of the steering and suspension components to ensure proper wheel alignment.

3. Replacement of worn components: Such as shock absorbers, struts, bushings, and steering linkage parts.

4. Fluid checks and top-offs: For power steering systems.

5. Wheel bearing maintenance: Cleaning, lubricating, and replacing wheel bearings as needed.

By performing regular suspension and steering system service, you can help:

  • Maintain vehicle stability and control
  • Ensure a smooth ride and reduce vibrations
  • Prevent premature wear on tires and other components
  • Enhance overall vehicle safety and reliability
